Located on a mezzanine parking level at a secondary entrance to a shopping centre, the site lacks frequent pedestrian traffic. A conceptual strategy was devised to create a go karting facility which is engaging and inviting, thereby creating a destination environment which would attract customers and not merely depend on passing traffic.
Existing walls were demolished and replaced with expanded metal screens clad in yellow PVC curtains traditionally used in metal working and go kart workshops. The screens are robust, easy to repair and maintain, permits air circulation, are visually permeable and allow the sound of the karts and cheering crowds to be heard in the broader parking lot area, thereby creating an exciting and engaging environment.
The internal layout provides varying degrees of engagement between spectators and drivers, and responds to the operational requirements of the client.
