Situated in Wynberg, Cape Town, off the busy Main Road, this development is to house a fabric store together with its back-of-house activities. The nature of the trading area is such that perimeter walls of the building need to be solid with minimal openings.

This function is reflected on the exterior with an aluminium sheet facade system and small openings, except for the entrance volume which is fully glazed. Fire stairs and back-of-house activities are seen as more utilitarian and robust areas, and are hence made of more solid masonry.

The storage area on the roof is set back to comply with the town planning regulations and is a lightweight aluminium and steel structure. The street level is glazed to allow for visual merchandising and a more pedestrian-oriented interface.
